The Veer Demalu Memorial College was established by the conscious public of the locality Lalungdubi. The founder secretary was Late Santlal Baderbaiga, and the founder chairman was Late Kashiram Nabensa. Due to the increasing number of students striving to seek higher education from the locality, and the limited facilities available in nearby colleges, many students were unable to fulfill their aspirations for higher education.
Hence, the people of Lalungdubi, Alisingha, Bordolong, Arabari, Barman Pathar, Lanka Veta, Panch Bandar, Krishna Nagar, Kharikhana, Majh Basti, Bilgaon, Shimlai, Dogaon, etc., in a general meeting held on 17.04.2004, decided to open a degree college named Veer Demalu Memorial College at Lalungdubi, District Nagaon, so that the youth of the area could attain higher education. Accordingly, the college was established in the year 2004 in Lalungdubi under Bordolong Lanka Tribal belt.
In this regard, Hon'ble MP Sri Biswajit Doimari provided Rs. 10 lakhs, and Sri Chandan Brahma, Hon'ble Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development & Tourism, provided Rs. 15 lakhs for the college.
The College is situated in a remote and backward part of the Hojai sub-division , Nogaon district. Most of the people living in that area belongs to S.T and S.C Community.
A construction committee was formed as per the instruction of the DC of Nagaon. Sri Mayasing Baulagupu, then DeputytDirector of FCS & CA, was appointed Chairman of the committee.
Sri Mayasing Daulagupu donated one RCC room (20*27 ft) and a foundation for the Demalu statue. Another room (20*13 ft) was jointly donated by Sri Mayasing Daulagupu and Biresh Malakar. The roof work and Rs. 15,000, along with 3000 bricks, were provided by Sri Biresh Malakar. The remaining expenses were borne by M. S. Daulagupu.
The College named after the courageous Veer Demalu who is known very well in the history of Dimasa (Kachari). He was the great courageous Senapati of the King Tamradhuj Thousan who was the only person to receive a white elephant from the king as a gift for his courageous stunts in the war against the Burmese. Who later sacrificed his life for the cause of the Dimasas.
The College was initially started functioning in the building of Sri Mayasing Daulagupu for a period of 9 month until College building was ready and later on the College was shifted to the newly constructed building of its own which was inugarated by honorable minister Mr. Chandan Barhma.
The College is, thus, a building co-educational institution located at an ideal place near at Lalongdubi village. The atmosphere here is quiet and presenting a serene educational environment.
